Microsoft SharedView Beta is a free remote desktop application developed by Microsoft, which is currently in Beta and is offered as a competitor to "WebEx" or "GotoMeeting".

The application is very easy to use and allows you to connect up to 15 people at once, ideal for presentations online (like PowerPoint), share and update documents with multiple users.

To start a session using this program, you must sign in with a Windows Live ID ID (Passport ID).

The application works on Windows 2000/2003/XP and Vista.

In the end, we choose g GoToMeetin ahead of dimdim as synchronous online communication environment or 'webinar' to Aprendesap '.

What can make a difference for us is good audio performance and reliability and system stability.

These environments for online meetings, share the presenter's screen or applications and documents. Usually have audio for the presenter and the listeners. Other options are to share tools to indicate stress or report on a shared document or change presenter.

Dimdim, we liked the ease of sharing the conduct of meetings (link fixed direction and to place in a web widget), the usability of the environment (friendly and simple), did not need to install software on the audience (only flash plugin essential for the 'host'). Also save the recording of the meeting online and has the possibility of using surveys prepared or snapshots.

But we have had repeated problems with the flash plugin, we had several days entangled with updates, and excessive audio delay: came to be 8 seconds. I'm talking about connections to 40 km. Surely the problem lies in the positioning of the servers outside Europe. Dimdim support for pro accounts is very fast. We have reduced the audio delay, changing us the Europa server. However, it has come to function as Skype or GoToMeeting.

The audio delay takes away the possibility of voice interactivity. Dimdim is a free version (audio only the 'host'), and in that configuration can be useful to many people.

GoToMeeting instead of Flash operates on Java. Which has a slight drawback: the audience must be installed to access the software first. However, the installation is easy and immediate if you have Java installed. Another advantage, more significantly, you can have the chat always visible on the image, screen sharing in dimdim not find the option to view it. The most important difference is the great audio quality, with very little delay.

How anecdote, has application for iPhone and dimdim when Flash will not work on the iPad (yet).

My recommendation:

If you need audio interactivity with the audience using GoToMeeting. Addition GoToMeeting medium term is more professional and stable.

If instead, you just need audio to the speaker and the price limit you dimdim is a very reasonable, fast and easy to use for a free account.

Note: remember that Webex had already discarded because of the difficulty of the installation for listeners, but also a widely used tool.

Any other alternatives?

I am looking for a free alternative to WebEx and GoToMeeting. Services that used to share desks away entirely by the browser (no firewall changes, all through port 80). It must be easy and done through the browser. I expect computer illiterate people do not really set up UltraVNC for example.

I found some free like Zoho Meeting and dimdim, but they are all for hosting a meeting, you can not take control or see the screen of the client. To achieve the situation that I'm trying to, a client needs help with her computer, so I would like to take their computer away and see what's going on. Anyone use anything good?
